2 pkg yeast
1/4 c warm water
1/2 c shortening
1/2 c sugar
3 eggs, well beaten
1 c warm water
2 tsp salt
4 1/2 c flour
Soften the yeast in the 1/4 cup warm water. In a large bowl, combine shortening, sugar, beaten eggs, the 1 cup warm water, salt, softened yeast, and 3 cups flour. Beat with hand mixer until smooth and well mixed. Add remaining flour to make soft dough. Cover and allow to rise in warm place until doubled in bulk; punch down and refrigerate overnight.
Three hours before serving, roll out and let rise. Bake in oven at 400 degrees F, for about 15 minutes or until golden brown. Can be made into Cinnamon Rolls and Orange Rolls.
For Orange Rolls, combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup soft butter and orange peel, spread on dough. After baking drizzle glaze over rolls of 2 tablespoons margarine, 3 tablespoons orange juice, 1 tablespoon grated orange peel, and powdered sugar to make a thin glaze.
**My variations include mixing in a kitchen aid mixer and I don't put in the fridge overnight, I just roll out the rolls after the first punch down. Try the first batch at only 10 minutes and see how they look. 15 min. historically has been too long. Enjoy.
